Matter of Form

ELIGIBILITY: Organized by the Pacific Rim Sculptors (PRS), this call is open and free to all current PRS sculptors who are up to date with their dues, as well as current with the ISC membership. All art must be for sale and available for purchase.

THEME: Matter of Form celebrates the material as subject. Selected artworks will explore the relationship between matter and form in a variety of media and techniques. Artists are encouraged to submit sculptural works that highlight materiality, whether through transformation, experimentation, or minimal manipulation.

CATEGORIES ACCEPTED: Three-dimensional sculpture in any media will be considered: Free-standing, pedestal, wall-mounted, wall leaning, electronic, small installations, etc. Artist may be asked to provide their own pedestals. Nothing may be affixed to the ceiling. Please do not submit highly fragile works, or anything that decays or emits odor. Space size per artwork approx. 3’ x 4’ footprint. Max height is 10 ft. Max weight 300 lbs. Artist must be present to assist with complicated installation/de-installation.

JUROR: Christine Koppes is the Curator and Director of Public Programs at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). Christine came to the ICA in summer 2018 from the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA, where she served as the Assistant Curator of Exhibitions and Programs. Christine is dedicated to curating exhibitions that promote awareness and appreciation of contemporary art and culture, with an emphasis on site-specific and immersive installations. Christine Koppes has lived and worked in the Bay Area for ten years. She received her BA in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley in 2012. www.sjica.org

Gallery hours: Wed - Fri 12 - 6, Sat 11 - 5.
SHOH Gallery will add 40% on your price for commission, so please price accordingly. The gallery insures work, will print cards, and send out email announcements to client list. The space is on the ground floor and ADA compliant.

EXHIBITION TIMELINE: 2019
 
• Feb 9 - Sat - Deadline for Artist submissions by 12 midnight
 • Feb. 28 - Thu - Artists notified of Juror's selections
 • Apr 14 - Delivery & installation - Sun or Tue 4/16 by appt.
 April 17 - May 11, 2019, Exhibition Dates  • Apr 27 - Sat, 4 - 7 pm - Reception, International Sculpture Day
 • May 12 - Sun - De-installation

ARTWORK: Artists may submit images, short videos, etc. of up to three artworks, including up to three views of each artwork (for a maximum of 9 images total). Selected art may be hand delivered or shipped, ready for exhibition and be presented professionally. Members residing out of the Bay Area are encouraged to apply. If shipping is necessary, they must limit crate/packing container to 2' x 2' x 2' max and must provide return shipping expenses, including insurance. Artwork would need to arrive the week prior to the installation and shipped to an off-site location, to be determined.
