PRS NEWS -- January 2026

Dear PRS Members and Community,

Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you rested, inspired, and ready to step into a new year of creativity and connection with Pacific Rim Sculptors.

I am delighted to report that to date, we received $6,000 in donations so far surpassing our goal of $3,500! Your generosity is deeply appreciated! Thank you!

One of our goals this year is to grow our culture of volunteerism. I invite you to become more actively involved in our community. PRS is strongest when our members share their voices, talents, and ideas. Our board is excited to create more opportunities for collaboration and participation in the year ahead!

Specifically, we need volunteers for exhibitions, communications, events, outreach, and special projects. You can offer your skills in a way that feels meaningful to you. Every contribution, big or small, helps our organization thrive. We need you!

Attend a board meeting. We are pleased to share that we are opening our board meetings to all members. If you are an active member, you will receive a Zoom link invitation in your email. At each meeting, everyone will be greeted at the beginning, and then invited to listen in and learn more about what’s happening behind the scenes. At the end of each meeting, you will be able to ask questions or offer suggestions. We hope this creates a more transparent, inclusive, and connected organization where members feel truly part of shaping PRS’s future.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing:

• Volunteer opportunities

• Dates and details for open board meetings

• Ways to plug into upcoming programs and initiatives

If you already feel inspired to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know your interests at Info@pacificrimsculptors.org

Thank you for being part of this vibrant and generous community of sculptors. Your creativity, commitment, and presence are what make PRS such a special place. We look forward to working alongside you in the months ahead.

With warm wishes for a creative and connected new year,
Catherine Daley
President, Pacific Rim Sculptors

Catherine Merrill

"Drawn From Life" is the third annual exhibition of figurative sculpture, paintings & drawings by prominent Bay Area artists, curated by Catherine Merrill & Susan R. Kirshenbaum at the Sausalito Center for the Arts.

The work in the exhibition reflects today's narrative, expressive phase of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, as each artist continues to draw on the Living World to express our stories. These artists might be responding to inspiration from live models or sharing their personal struggles & the tension of the universe that surrounds our lives. As artists, teachers & curators, we are shedding light on our world of life drawing, sculpting & painting, which continues to grow & maintain a large following of dedicated artists.

"Drawn from Life" pays tribute to all artists who are working from life. Five pieces will be exhibited as mini-shows by each artist.

You can also find Barry's work in the first show of the 2026 season at The Drawing Room, Sanctuary.  This was a locals-only open call exploring the meaning of sanctuary in the San Francisco Bay Area. Historically a refuge for many marginalized communities, the concept of sanctuary has been challenged and fractured in our current political climate. Curated by Courtney Norris and Renee DeCarlo, the exhibition invites artists to define and create sanctuary in all its forms - spatial, spiritual, and political. Barry Beach’s work reflects on the historical use of mountainous terrain as places of refuge, engaging viewers in a meditation on landscape and shelter.
