From the PresidentSaturday, April 27 was International Sculpture Day, and we had an amazing event at the Museum of Sonoma with PRS’s own Briona Hendren demonstrating metal casting techniques along with welding and thermal cutting demonstrations by Alexander Yoshikawa and Charles Splady. At least two members - Jeff Owen in San Jose & Richard Starks in Gilroy - participated in or hosted IS Day events. We’re hoping to schedule more events this year. Hosting artist studio tours around the area may be a great way to network and meet with each other. Please reach out if you would like to host an event that could be an informal meeting in your area within walking distance of several member studios and galleries. Finally, please consider joining our board. We had three long-time and long-serving board members resign in January. Thank you to Oleg Lobykin, Jann Nunn, and Eileen Fitz-Faulkner for their several years of service to PRS! The events and exhibitions they made possible are incredible. Please help fill these vacancies - email me at president@pacificrimsculptors.org I look forward to meeting up soon- Barry BeachPRS President, Board of DirectorsAlexander Yoshikawa welding demo, photo from IS Day at Museum of Sonoma County 2024. We are sad to say that the exhibition "A Question of Balance" at the Museum of Sonoma County (MSC) will be coming to a close soon. Sunday, May 26th to be exact. If you haven't been there yet, be sure to make some time to travel to Santa Rosa for it. We aren't lying when we say that it will be worth the trip! This was truly a beautiful representation of some of our member's work. The curators did a tremendous job selecting and laying out the show. We look forward to future collaborations with MSC.
Before the show closes we do have two more events on the calendar to not miss! Coming up we have the last Second Saturday Artist Talk, as well as the Curators Talk between Jeff Nathanson & Kate Eilertsen. **See details below**
Info about the exhibition: “A Question of Balance: Selected Works from Pacific Rim Sculptors.” Artworks for the exhibition were selected by jurors Jeff Nathanson (MSC) and Kate Eilertsen (Di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art). Artists used their own interpretations in materials, techniques, subject matter, or a combination of concepts to address the theme of balance. The resulting exhibition features 45 sculptors representing a diverse range of approaches, techniques, and materials. Included are sculptural works in metal, wood, stone, mixed media, and installation in sizes ranging from nine inches to over 12 feet in height!
