Greetings members!
It was great catching up with several of you at two events this month: at my open studio and Marguerite Elliot’s artist talk at her exhibition at Dominican University. We hope to make the artist talk a regular member opportunity again. If you’re interested in inviting members to your studio, please contact briona@pacificrimsculptors.org with a preliminary date. IN MEMORY...It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of PRS member Peter Keresztury Peter Keresztury, February 7, 1940 – August 1, 2024 Peter Keresztury was a member of PRS and he was proud to be among so many talented artists of Pacific Rim Sculptors. He enjoyed sharing ideas and meeting socially and at exhibitions. Peter created a large collection of kinetic wind sculptures over the years. They were displayed at several galleries, fairs and exhibitions, but spent most of their time on the front lawn of Peter's home in Novato. His house became a sort of tourist attraction to the joy of those who passed by his house. Check out one of the videos: https://youtu.be/uiTGKU1QEIc He also designed metal and wood indoor sculptures for his home to go along with many abstract paintings, landscape photographs and table furniture that he designed and built. He passed away on August 1, 2024 and was creating to the end with some new ideas he was working on. He will be missed by his loving wife, Deborah, and the entire art community. Stephanie MetzThis September, Stephanie Metz will present a new body of work, In the Glow, at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, California. Consisting of free-standing and wall-mounted sculptures and a monumental stitched industrial felt sculpture, the works will employ fiber media, body-like forms and reflected color to explore themes of soft power, aesthetic perception, and the intimate paradoxes of female life. These works expand conventional definitions of the feminine and explore how edgy softness can hold space, command presence, and provoke thought. For more information: https://www.stephaniemetz.com/#/in-the-glow/ Exhibition: September 14 - December 29, 2024 Opening Reception: Saturday, September 28, 2-4pm Location: Triton Museum, 1505 Warburton Ave, Santa Clara, CA Stephanie Metz, In The Glow (Installation Concept Drawing), 2024 The upcoming site-specific sculpture invites visitors to immerse themselves ‘inside the glow’ created between the 16-by-20-foot ‘ curtain’ of undulating abstracted figurative forms made of stitched industrial felt and a wall of fluorescent pink paint. Stephanie Metz, In the Glow sculptures, 2023-2024, wool, mixed media, and pigment, variable dimensions from 8 x 8 x 8 inches to 40 x 30 x 4 inches. Photo by Stephanie Metz.
