The center point is our galactic north pole around which our star, and many others, slowly circle over the eons. Kathleen King

Inspired by her reading group's discussion of Spheres of Insurrection: Decolonizing the Subconscious by Suely Rolnik, Kathleen King presents VEXED INSURRECTION, an installation of stacked plastic spire sculptures and fabric nests germinating in a storefront space in the heart of downtown Oakland.

Kathleen King, a San Francisco Bay Area-based artist, creates assemblages, sculptures, and installations from materials salvaged from the waste stream. Her work explores states of coexistence, contingency, and control, using discarded objects to challenge viewers to consider abandonment as both a material and spiritual condition. Through her practice, she invites reflection on how our desires and consumption are inextricably linked to the global climate crisis.

Below are the details of the exhibition, along with an in-progress image of the work.

Marguerite Elliot, Catherine Daley, and Jane Ingram Allen

The International Roots Art Project connects nature, women, and art—bringing together women-identified and non-binary artists from diverse backgrounds. Our collective focus rests on the intrinsic beauty of the natural world and the imperative need to safeguard our environment.

We celebrate the profound symbolism of trees, delving into the intricate tapestry of their roots that mirror the interconnectedness of all life forms. Just as roots anchor a tree, binding it to the earth, so too do they bind us—to our shared humanity, our ancestral legacies, the embrace of our families, and the journeys of migration that define us.

The International Roots Art Project is a platform for connection and advocacy. Through our art, we amplify our voices, weaving a narrative that transcends borders and foments social change.

The group exhibition features the work of Sonoma County artists Catherine Daley, Adrian Mendoza, and Bambi Waterman. On view from February 6 to March 15, 2025, the exhibition explores the natural world through terrestrial, aerial, and underwater lenses.

Daley’s minimalist sculptures, bronzes, and landscape photographs highlight the fragile and subtle beauty of our planet. Mendoza’s aerial photography and fiber art showcase dynamic landscapes in jewel-like tones and stark black-and-white contrasts. Waterman’s detailed ceramics and underwater landscape paintings capture the delicate and stunning beauty of our oceans. Together, these works invite reflection on the critical need for environmental awareness and protection.
