Livingston, orb (2024) - photopoem on metal, 10 x 13 x 0.75" Orb is one of over 2 dozen meditative "phomes" (photopoems) that J Livingston completed over the last year. As with his sculpture and video, orb deals with light and shadow and the enigmatic territory where pattern and randomness overlap. On the October night of the full Hunter’s Moon, Livingston climbed onto his roof, camera in hand, to capture the austere beauty of moonlight in the oaks and the patterns playing out on surfaces below. He had composed the poem a few weeks earlier. |

Barbara BerkSmithsonian Acquires Handwoven Platinum & Aquamarine Pendant by Barbara M. Berk Berk's first sculptures were smaller, personal scale and wearable. She wove high karat gold and platinum by hand, off loom, one at a time, and shaped the flat fabric into a 3-dimensional sculptural form. Precious metal ribbons, ruffles, spirals and loops became pendants, brooches and earrings. One of her favorites, the "Aquamarine Rhapsody" a woven platinum pendant, has been acquired by the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History and now resides in the National Gem Collection in Washington, DC. The pendant features a 31.08ct aquamarine drop carved by international award-winning lapidary artist Sherris Cottier Shank.
