Greetings PRS Community!Fall is officially in the air, the leaves are turning and the weather is beginning to get cooler. Sweater weather is certainly among us! As the season transitions we begin to prepare for a few things: our annual end of the year fundraising drive, board and committee recruitment, and the beginnings of scheduling out our 2025 events calendar! We can't schedule out the new year without you. What kinds of PRS events would you like to see? Would you like to host a Second Sunday Studio Visit at your studio? Richard AlpertSaatchi Art Curation Supervisor and Assistant Curator, India Balyejusa and Audrey Wolfe, have selected 15 up-and-coming artists included in their new digital exhibition, Beyond the Canvas: Exploring Mixed Media and Sculpture. PRS member Richard Alpert was selected amongst the cohort with three of his sculptures. "The works from these artists are statements leading the way in contemporary art with their inventive and boundary-defying use of space, form, and material. Oleg LobykinOleg Lobykin is one of a few PRS members that displays work at Burning Man. This year Oleg stepped out of his comfort zone and displayed a new piece utilizing recycled materials for the first time. Unsafe to Swim is an artwork that is a visual symbol of danger, fear, and hope for tomorrow. It seeks to raise awareness about the human impact on nature and our interconnectedness with our environment. "I often show my work at Burning Man. Kelly Smith Cassidy Kelly Smith Cassidy, also known as "Copper Keiligh," is a sculptor and interdisciplinary artist based in Northern California. Born into a family of fine artists, her grandparents and parents have owned galleries and created sculptures since the 1950s. Inspired by her family’s artistic legacy, Kelly began creating her own work in high school, blending traditional metalworking techniques with her unique style. She holds dual degrees in Marketing and Business Management from Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix, which support her art business. Kelly’s recent work includes large-scale art installations for Burning Man, including the 2020 "Infinite Stare. His work is mostly free-standing floor sculptures which look as if they may or may not have some other function in the world. Additionally, he makes wooden wall-mounted sculptures that have some paint and collage elements. She began dancing at age five and discovered her passion for ceramics in high school. Gunter studied ceramics at Diablo Valley College with Clayton Bailey, later at San Francisco State with Joe Hawley and Charles McKee, and continued at Laney College with Alan Meisel, Ted Odza, and Sherry Karver. She co-founded Orches, focusing on dance, motion therapy, and body orchestration. After personal challenges, she returned to ceramics, showcasing her work in her 2008 solo show The Reading Chair. Gunter continues to create and exhibit in the Bay Area.
